STEP 2: HELP FRIENDS & FAMILY

As you’ve discovered in this series, panic attacks (and what's typically labeled as ‘panic disorder’) are very common.

Unfortunately, good help for panic is very hard to find.

Since I can't reach everyone on my own, and since we both share the same belief that we don’t want anyone to suffer in silence… if you benefit from what I’m doing here in this series, please tell others about it.

Thank you so much for helping me make a difference!

STEP 3: REINFORCE YOUR INSIGHTS

If you met someone else who experienced panic attacks and you only had 30 seconds to share ONE ESSENTIAL insight from this episode with them... what would you tell them?

Share your answer below to reinforce your long-term memory for this key insight AND to share your perspective with others (who will also share their perspectives with you).

Also, if you have any other comments for me, I'd love to hear them too.

Love,

Michael

P.S. Your email address will NOT be visible to others when you share your insight in the comments section below. Also, if you're more comfortable using just your first name, that's totally fine as well.

  1. I really appreciate the work you have done Michael Norman, your videos will make my life easier when speaking in front of class. I cant wait for episode three. 🙂

  2. I’ve just watched the second episode, this is the only thing so far that has given me a glimmer of hope that I will be back to my normal self again, and start living my life without the worry of panic taking over, I’ve had them every day for over 2 years and I’ve been so miserable. I actually cried watching the last two episodes because I feel as if you can help me and I cant thank you enough

    1. Hi Jessica, I’m so sorry to hear you’ve been through such a difficult time over the last 2 years, and I’m so glad you’re here watching these videos. Thanks for your comment and so glad these videos are helping you!

  3. This episode made me smile! When you explain what occurs during the panic attack, it’s like you are speaking only to me. It is all starting to make sense. The scariest part seemed to be that I didn’t know what was happening to me. Thank you again for providing this for free.

  4. Thank you michael for the advice i have been struggling with this for 15 years heavily but since my childhood it was in the background everybody tells me that i will have to settle with it and live with wich i don t believe,i am waiting anxioudly for the number 3 and 4,thank you for doing this free..cause not dveryone has the money for this.

    1. You’re welcome Michael. No one has to settle with having panic attacks, and there are no lost causes! I give away so much for free here because I want to make a big difference in the world. Also, you can find even more free videos on my blog (which I continue to add to), and I have full program that’s far more in-depth than even these videos, with personal 1-on-1 help from me, for those who want even more help.

  5. Hi Michael,

I’ve been dealing with very intense Panic Attacks….(Panic Disorder and GAD) for the last 11 years. Watching your videos have been very helpful and informative. I do have a question however about the particular panic attacks I get. So from what I’ve read most panic attacks consist of hyperventilating and rapid heart beat…mine however are a bit different when it comes to symptoms. Mine usually begin with a very odd sensation in my head(burning, cloudiness, hotness) which leads to certain areas of of numbness in my body (arms, legs), which then lead to a rapid heart beat….never really hyperventilating…but maybe crying and or worrying that something is completely wrong with me. My question is even though my symptoms don’t completely resonate with the common symptoms of a panic attack….would you still consider what I go through…a panic attack or do you think it could be something else?

    1. Hi Steph, I’m glad my videos are helping you and thanks for your comment. I’m not a doctor, obviously no one could answer your question over the internet, and as I mentioned in the Episode 1 handout, it’s always important to get one good medical check up. Having said these things, your experience is very common for panic (although everyone can have a different sequence of sensations). Not everyone with panic hyperventilates (although many do without knowing, because they have subtle chronic HV over time). Numbness is very common, as are very odd sensations in the head etc (a rush of hotness, cloudy thinking etc etc). If you look at the PDF you’ll see that anxiety can create a very wide-range of sensations and experiences. Again, though, relating to your specific situation, that is a question for your doctor, not me 🙂

  6. I been going through anxiety and panic attacks for the past year and never understood why it happen or where it came from and for the most reason why it was impossible to control but watching these videos gave me a insight on things and there helpful. it really makes sense now. thank you!

  7. Hey Michael, the first thing I would share about is where you explain about breaking the vicious cycle in which we need to try to stop getting anxious when getting certain body sensations.
Thankyou Michael for explaining in such detail. I have never come across anyone that explains it so well as you. I am sure your work is benefitting many. Once again i’d really like to thank you. This episode has had a huge impact on me.

    Meena

    1. Thanks Meena for the kind words. I’m so glad this episode has had a huge impact on you!

  8. Thank you so much for episode 2! One major takeaway is how over-breathing causes my biochemistry to change, due to an excess of CO2 release from my body. Hence, it causes all of the other weird body sensations I go through during a panic mistake that can seem extremely threatening and scary at the time. Such as: the “throat closing” feeling, an over-sensitive and nervous stomach, a numbness in my hands and arms, lightheadedness and headaches/head tightness, an overwhelming amount of tears and sinuses reaction, and on and on. Thanks once again! It’s a lot to take in so I really want to take my time processing all of this information. Especially, the PDF’s.

    1. Hi David, you’re welcome. Yes there is a lot to take in, which in why I try to spread these episodes out. It’s great you’re going deep into the PDFs. There is a lot of information in them! Thanks for your comment!

  9. I really like hearing your voice and how calm you are. I take Xanax to combat my fear. I have leanred that dep breathing does help, but for me it has not. Thank You

    1. Hi Christoper, I’m going to make a whole video on deep breathing exercises to explain my position more fully. I do cover quite a bit in the PDF though. Your experience that deep breathing exercises don’t help you is very common. Some people of course get temporary relief… but they still get panic attacks in-spite of (and I would argue partially BECAUSE of in many cases) their deep breathing exercises even years later. Thanks for your comment 🙂

  10. Thanks for episode 2 it made a lot of sense. I’m still afraid though that even when I know a panic attack is a false alarm, I still can’t help but to be scared of the sensations it causes. Panic attacks for me are almost always started by nausea and even though I know an attack can’t harm me, it can most definitely disrupt the situation i’m in if i’m vomiting everywhere.. How do I stop the anxiety in the first place?
Thank you for your work it’s truly inspiring

    1. Hi Ria, thanks for your kind words and so glad this is making a lot of sense to you. I totally appreciate your question. Insight and logically knowing you’re safe is NOT the same as FEELING safe and calm. Your question leads right into Episode 3 🙂

  11. My last comment did not even do you justice, you are literally saving my life with these videos. Thank you soooo much for understanding.

    1. So glad this is helping you so much Chad, and thanks for sharing that with me 🙂

  12. Beautifully choreographed and so subtly put Michael, wonderfully grounding and I thank you Sir, so looking forward to part 3 🙂

  13. Hi Michael,
I just wanted to say a massive thank you, I’ve been struggling to leave the house the past couple of weeks I’ve read so much about this subject and watched so many videos also a lot of paper work from the GP and trained CBT nothing has come close to what I have watched in your videos you truly have helped me a lot and I can’t thank you enough!! Today I walked to the shop without one once of panic! Thank you again jolene UK

    1. Hey Jolene, well done! I’m so happy for you, and thanks for your kind words. That means a lot 🙂

  14. I am a cynic but I genuinely and heartfeltly feel that this may actually SAVE MY LIFE.

I have been deeply suicidal due to panic and the way it has limited my life and stopped me from achieving my goals and potential – not to mention, how awful panic feels on a day to day basis.

Because the brain can’t tell the difference between the false alarm and the saber tooth tiger – I have no life outside of work, because in my emotional mind, I go to work every day and fight a saber tooth tiger.

You cannot come home from fighting a tiger without feeling absolutely drained.

The courage it takes me to leave the house is immense.

I am not stupid. I am bright, articulate, funny, good-looking, hard-working and very courageous. This is a subconscious problem that I’ve had since childhood and is not of my own doing.

I feel you may help me to become the person I was meant to be and not spend my life in torture.

From the bottom of my heart, THANK YOU.

    1. Hey Sarah, thank you for this very open, genuine, brave comment! You sound like an amazing person with so much going for you, and I’m so sorry to hear of the pain you’ve been through. I’m so glad you’re here learning these insights. I admire your bravery, and thank you for your comment. I feel privileged to help you here.

(Please note: to anyone who could be suicidal, please make sure you get the right professional help in your own city on top of watching these videos. I am happy to work in conjunction with an on ground therapist to help you with your panic, but it simply would not be responsible for me to be the sole help, as this series doesn’t deal with issues of self-harm or suicide, and we don’t even live in the same city. Thanks.).

  15. Very insightful thank you! I would love to know better tequniques as of now when I’m in panic I come down and go back up, I would love to know how to stay down, just in case I get to that point, but thank you very much!

    1. Hi Matt, this is what you’ll get in Episode 3 coming right up next 🙂 Thanks for comment.

  16. Still digesting Episode 2. Burnt toast is the keyword for keeping me calm at the moment. Every thing is becoming very clear to me.
